I was also happy to see that the petting animation was done in a way that would make it possible for the user to pet other animals as well (like cats), and was even given the ability to pet multiple animals with a petting spree. So, I was pleased when I was given the ability to pet other pets, complete with a special petting animation, and a chance to pet the dog friend that accompanied me. Though I am simply a pet owner, I find myself wanting to pet other people's pets for many of the same reasons that I enjoy petting the ones I have at home. Going off of the fact that this is an adventure game, the most important part of the game for me, as someone who has had a chance to play the original browser-based version, was the ability to go on a tropical adventure with my dog.

While the free-to-play model is a bit of a concern, the fact that you can purchase the game's currency to spend on upgrades is a nice touch, and it makes sense that such a feature would exist. This is not the first time that Playfish has produced a Facebook/iTunes amalgamation, as they also offered up Pet Society: Sailing during E3, but I think this is the first time that the company has had the ability to pull off the feat. You will, however, have to be connected to Facebook in order to play (so that you can bring your pet along for the ride). Now the kicker - the app is completely free, and can be downloaded and played in the usual way. I'm assuming that while on the House Boat, you will have to wait a few seconds for your action to be reflected in the game world, as well as for your pet to respond to what you do. The game's graphics are generally nice, and while there is a small lag between your actions and what happens on screen, it's not really that big of an issue.
You can also purchase Seashells with other currencies as well, including Amazon Coins, Apple's in-game currency, or PayPal (via the app's in-app purchases menu).
You can then use Seashells to purchase upgrades within the app, such as items for your pet's health, ears, and even training.

You'll also be able to purchase items within the app, and can upgrade your House Boat to earn more Seashells (the expansion's free currency).
You'll then be greeted with a menu, where you'll be able to swim, dive, and fly to various islands. Upon opening the app, you'll see the House Boat (and your pet), and will be asked to select your pet to bring with you.
